Google Launches Gemini 3.8 Flash and a Cybersecurity Model

Google DeepMind just introduced two new AI models: Gemini 3.8 Flash, an upgrade to its everyday assistant model, and Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber, a specialized version built for cybersecurity defenders.

What changed

Gemini 3.8 Flash builds on the earlier 3.7 Flash model and is better at handling long, document-heavy tasks, completing more than three times as many of these tasks in Google’s own testing. The Cyber version is a separate model focused on finding and helping patch security vulnerabilities, and it performs at a frontier level on CyberGym, an industry benchmark for vulnerability discovery.

Why it matters to you

If you already use Gemini for writing, research, or organizing information, this update means the assistant should be more reliable on bigger, multi-step jobs, like working through a long document or a complex request with several parts, without you needing to do anything differently. The Cyber model isn’t for general use; it’s aimed at security teams, so most beginners won’t interact with it directly.

What you can do now

Try Gemini 3.8 Flash on a task you’d normally break into smaller pieces, like summarizing a long report or planning a multi-step project, and see if it holds up better in one go. If you work in IT or security, you can look into Google’s new Fairwind Program, which is how trusted defenders get access to Flash Cyber.
