Google DeepMind just introduced Gemini 3.8 Live, a new version of its live conversation mode that adds a feature called Live Avatar.
What changed
Gemini’s live, voice-based chat mode now comes with a visual avatar option, giving the AI a face and presence during real-time conversations instead of just a voice.
Why it matters to you
If you’re new to AI, talking to a screen can feel awkward. A visual avatar makes the interaction feel more like a natural conversation, which could make voice-based AI tools easier and more comfortable to use, especially for people who prefer seeing something respond rather than just hearing it.
What you can do now
Open the Gemini app and check your live conversation settings to see if the Live Avatar option has rolled out to your account. If you don’t see it yet, read the official announcement below to learn how and when it’s becoming available.
