ChatGPT Adds Health: Connect Medical Records & Apple Health

OpenAI just launched Health in ChatGPT, a new feature that lets eligible U.S. users securely connect their medical records and Apple Health data to ChatGPT.

What changed

Until now, if you asked ChatGPT a health question, it only knew what you typed into the chat. With this update, eligible users in the U.S. can link their own medical records and Apple Health information, so ChatGPT can give more personalized insights based on your actual health data.

Why it matters to you

Health information is often confusing. Lab results, doctor’s notes, and fitness stats live in different apps, and they are full of terms most of us don’t understand. By connecting your own data, ChatGPT can help you make sense of it in plain language — for example, helping you better understand what your records actually say. For beginners, this is one of the clearest examples yet of AI moving from “general answers” to “answers about you.” One honest note: an AI assistant is not a doctor. Treat this as a tool for understanding your health, not for diagnosing or replacing medical advice.

What you can do now

First, check if you’re eligible — the feature is currently for eligible users in the U.S. If you are, look for the Health option in ChatGPT and follow the steps to securely connect your medical records or Apple Health. Second, before connecting anything, take a moment to decide how comfortable you are sharing health data with an AI service. It’s securely handled according to OpenAI, but sharing personal health information is a personal choice — read the official announcement first so you know exactly what you’re opting into.
