Stop Guessing Which AI Is "Better" — Just Test Them Side by Side — DailySkill AI challenge card with an abstract brand illustration

👋 New here or behind? You don’t need to start at Day 1 — see today’s fresh picks → Today on DailySkill.

Ever open your AI app out of pure habit and wonder if a different one would’ve given you a better answer? Here’s exactly how to settle it in one minute: run the same prompt on two AI tools you have access to, put the answers side by side, and let your eyes decide.

You’ll walk away knowing which tool actually fits the thing you do most — not which one has the loudest reviews.

Sound familiar?

You default to whichever AI app you opened first. Maybe a friend recommended one, or it just happened to be the one already on your phone.

You’ve never actually tested them against each other on something real — like the email you write every week, or the way you summarize notes for your boss.

The 60-second fix

Step 1: Pick one real task you do often

Not a generic question — something from your actual week. A work email, a recipe substitution, a text to a landlord, a workout plan tweak.

Step 2: Copy this exact prompt into two different AI tools

Act as a helpful assistant. Here is my task:

[paste your real task/question here — be specific, include any details that matter]

Give me a clear, ready-to-use answer. Keep it practical and easy to follow.

Step 3: Read both answers back-to-back and pick a winner

Ask yourself: Which one do I understand faster? Which one could I use right now, with zero editing?

That’s it. You’re not hunting for the “smartest” AI — you’re hunting for the one that fits your task.

Prompt used in both tools:

Act as a helpful assistant. Here is my task:

Write a short email to my landlord asking to fix a leaking faucet.
Keep it polite but firm — this is the second time I'm asking.

Give me a clear, ready-to-use answer. Keep it practical and easy to follow.

Tool A’s version:

“Hi [Landlord’s name], following up on the kitchen faucet leak — I first reported this on [date] and it’s still not fixed. Could you let me know when a repair can be scheduled? Happy to be flexible on timing. Thanks for taking care of this.”

Tool B’s version:

“Dear [Landlord], I am writing again regarding the kitchen faucet leak previously reported. As the issue remains unresolved, I would appreciate an update on scheduling a repair at your earliest convenience. Thank you for your attention to this matter.”

Both are usable. But look at the gap: Tool A reads like a text you’d send a real person. Tool B reads like a formal notice.

Depending on your landlord, one of these fits better than the other. That’s the entire point of a side-by-side test — the “best” tool depends on your task, not a leaderboard.

Level up

  • Try the same test with a work task — a status update, a meeting recap, a tricky reply — to find your go-to for the job specifically.
  • Test a creative task (a caption, a toast, a poem). Creative writing tends to show the biggest gap between tools.
  • Keep a running note (even a tiny list in your phone) of “Tool A wins at ” and “Tool B wins at ” so you stop re-deciding from scratch every time.

FAQ

Do I need to pay to compare AI tools?
No — you can run this test with whatever tools you already have access to, paid or not. The comparison itself costs nothing but a minute.

Which AI tool is best overall?
There’s no single universal winner — it depends on your task. That’s exactly why a quick side-by-side test beats reading “best AI” roundups: you get an answer that’s true for your work, not a generic ranking.

Is this a good way to pick a long-term go-to?
Yes. Running the same prompt across a few different task types (writing, planning, quick lookups) over time gives you a much clearer “my go-to AI” than any single review ever could.
