How We Test & Review AI Tools: Editorial Standards & Methodology
At DailySkill.ai, we write from hands-on use of the tools we cover. We never accept sponsored reviews, paid placements, or vendor-written copy. Here is exactly how we evaluate tools, run blind comparisons, and check our tutorials.
Core Promise to Readers
Guides are written from hands-on use. Our 2026 model comparison was scored by an AI judge, not by people, and we say so on the page. If a tool hallucinates, burns token limits, breaks formatting, or costs more than it is worth, we say so plainly.
1. 100% Editorial Independence
To protect our readers from sponsored bias and vendor hype, DailySkill.ai operates under strict independence principles:
- Zero Paid Reviews: We do not accept payment, free hardware gifts, or pre-written corporate PR copy from any AI vendor or software developer.
- Self-Funded Subscriptions: Guides use free tiers unless a paid plan is named. The 2026 model comparison was run through command-line tools (Codex CLI, Claude Code, gemini CLI), not the consumer apps, and the plans used were not recorded.
- Affiliate Transparency: We do not use affiliate links and earn no commission from tools we cover. If that ever changes, affected links will be labeled.
2. How We Run Blind Model Comparisons
When we compare assistants, each is labeled with the exact model and tool used on the test date. In our August 28, 2026 comparison: ChatGPT (gpt-5.6-sol via Codex CLI 0.145.0), Claude (Claude Code, model version not recorded) and Gemini (gemini-3.1-pro-high via Antigravity CLI (agy) 1.1.22). The protocol:
- Standardized Everyday Prompts: 20 everyday tasks (for example: a group-chat summary, meeting minutes, a resume summary, a plain-English contract explanation, recipes from a fixed ingredient list, a 3-day itinerary and a 280-character tweet). Full list on the benchmark page.
- Blind Labels: answers are stripped of model self-references and labeled A, B and C before scoring; the answer key is kept in a separate file.
- AI Judge: an AI judge (claude-sonnet-5) scores each answer on the five criteria below and writes a short rationale. No human scoring; because the judge is a Claude model, self-preference bias is possible. Models tested outside the blind step (Grok 4.6 in 2026) are reported separately and not ranked.
- Open Dataset Release: Prompts, answers and scores are downloadable (CSV/JSON). Our scores and notes are CC BY 4.0; quoted third-party text is not covered.
3. The 5-Dimension DailySkill Rubric (25 Points Max)
Benchmark answers are scored on these five criteria (1 to 5 points each), the same ones used on the benchmark page:
| Criterion | Weight | What We Look For | Automatic Deductions |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Task Completion | 5 Pts | Answers every part of the prompt, without evasions or omissions. | Skipping parts of the prompt, evasions, truncated answers. |
| 2. Factual Accuracy | 5 Pts | Calculations, opening hours, ingredient limits and calendar dates are correct. | Hallucinating fictitious corporate acquisitions, impossible travel routes, or false legal claims. |
| 3. Beginner Clarity | 5 Pts | Accessible, natural language for non-technical users. | Jargon, robotic preambles, unsolicited boilerplate (for example, overusing “delve”, “tapestry”, “in summary”). |
| 4. Immediate Usability | 5 Pts | Can be pasted into an email, chat or planner without cleanup. | Requiring extensive manual reformatting, broken markdown tables, convoluted multi-step friction. |
| 5. Format Compliance | 5 Pts | Follows limits such as “exactly 5 bullets”, “under 280 characters” or “use only these ingredients”. | Breaking a length limit, adding unlisted items, ignoring a requested structure. |
4. The 60-Second Usability Standard
Our site motto is “Master AI in 1 minute a day.” To qualify as a featured Daily Challenge or recommended Tool:
- The reader must be able to test the workflow within 60 to 90 seconds.
- Free tiers or free trials must be explicitly identified so normal users aren’t trapped behind unexpected paywalls.
- Copy-paste ready prompt templates must be provided in clean, formatted blocks.
5. Correction, Fact-Checking & Model Update Policy
AI models update rapidly. When an AI provider ships an update, deprecates a feature, or adjusts pricing:
- Version Stamping: Benchmark scorecards show the model, tool and test date. Guides get a “Tested: date · model · plan” line as they are updated.
- Reader Corrections: If you spot a factual error or an updated tool workflow, contact our editorial desk directly at support@dailyskill.ai. Verified corrections are made as soon as we confirm them and are logged on the page.
